All the science that's fit to print… and some is actually unfit but gets published anyway.
Beware those who claim that "censorship" is holding back "innovation" because the truth is science is a work in progress building consensus and building on a body of evidence with what's come before.
It's a mistake to expect every science study to reveal some revelation. That's just not how science works. And not all innovation is welcome. I think most would agree peanut butter should be made out of peanuts, but at one point in the past, manufacturers started making peanut butter with many additives and fillers, and the industry even argued that making it mostly of actual peanuts would supposedly stifle innovation in peanut butter. Or Stockton Rush complaining that safety regulations supposedly stopping innovation, and then his ultimate end in a watery tomb.
Putting stuff on the market and selling covid products on the idea of one new small study funded by the manufacturer that's hyped by prestigious PR and online influencers as some exciting breakthrough… that's just not how science works. And you shouldn't trust your health or waste your money like that.
And this is before you even get to fraudulent appeal to authority - the tactic of citing sources that don’t actually back up the claim, if it even backs up anything at all. There's actually just straight up not real stuff that slips through and gets published, even if it's eventually retracted. And it's not just stuff littered with AI "hallucinated" references either. There are some whole journals that are junk.
We were in trouble before Jay Bhattacharya started his witch hunt at the NIH.
Things are bound to get worse.
Important Context - Ivermectin Doctors Launch New Medical Journal It is the latest dark money-fueled publication stacked with fringe doctors with ties to the Trump administration. Walker Bragman Mar 12, 2025 The press release announcing the new journal promised it would be “a groundbreaking peer-reviewed publication dedicated to restoring integrity, transparency, and scientific independence in medical research and education.” But FLCCC, which trademarked the slogan “Honest Medicine” in April last year, is known for its promotion of vaccine misinformation and the antiparasitic drug ivermectin, which they have long held up as a treatment for a number of diseases—most notably COVID, despite multiple large, high quality studies finding it ineffective for that purpose. More recently, they have billed their I-PREVENT COVID, flu, and RSV protocol, which includes ivermectin, as bird flu prevention. FLCCC co-founders, Drs. Pierre Kory and Paul Marik, had their board certifications revoked by the American Board of Internal Medicine last year for spreading COVID misinformation. Nevertheless, the IMA’s new publication appears aimed at continuing its pro-ivermectin crusade.
DEF CON 26 - Svea, Suggy, Till - Inside the Fake Science Factory - Sep 17, 2018 Fake News has got a sidekick and it's called Fake Science. This talk presents the findings and methodology from a team of investigative journalists, hackers and data scientists who delved into the parallel universe of fraudulent pseudo-academic conferences and journals; Fake science factories, twilight companies whose sole purpose is to give studies an air of scientific credibility while cashing in on millions of dollars in the process. Until recently, these fake science factories have remained relatively under the radar, with few outside of academia aware of their presence; but the highly profitable industry is growing significantly and with it, so are the implications. To the public, fake science is indistinguishable from legitimate science, which is facing similar accusations itself. Our findings highlight the prevalence of the pseudo-academic conferences, journals and publications and the damage they can and are doing to society.
