CUNY union voting guide: "Rank 5 candidates and do not rank Cuomo."
PA State Rep Rick Krajewski sent me an email back in February about a fundraising event in Philly for Zohran Mamdani, so just based on that I'm inclined to say if I lived in NYC, that's who I'd be ranking at the top, because Rick Krajewski has been a consistently decent state rep for Pennsylvania and stands with workers.
But no matter what, Andrew Cuomo should not be ranked at all.
Andrew Cuomo put himself out there as a leader at the outset of the pandemic, and people bought into it because he seemed better than Donald Trump. But all the while Cuomo was making grave decisions that made the pandemic worse, not just for New Yorkers, but also for people in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan, because those governors followed Cuomo's lead in a coalition back then because of a lack of leadership at the federal level. There should be no way after all the scandals around Cuomo that it makes sense for him to even run if you don’t want another right-winger as mayor in NYC.
The Lever - Mar 2, 2021 “They Can’t Hold The Nursing Homes Responsible” Across New York state, Cuomo’s nursing home liability shield has caused a legal chilling effect, reducing a deterrent to corporate wrongdoing. Joel Warner “I think the law they passed gave the facilities an excuse to do the bare minimum to keep these people alive,” says Vivian. “Cuomo said the COVID-19 threat to nursing home residents was like ‘fire through dry grass.’ My mother was dry grass — and they brought in the matches.” “Lobbying Money Well Spent” On April 3, 2020, as the media was reporting on how New York was becoming a global coronavirus hot spot, Cuomo signed into law the state’s budget bill for the year, which included a little-noticed provision on page 347 that noted that executives, board members, trustees, and other corporate officials at nursing homes and other health care facilities “shall have immunity from any liability, civil or criminal, for any harm or damages alleged to have been sustained as a result of an act or omission in the course of arranging for or providing health care services” related to COVID-19.
