📣 Pandemic Campaigns Directory 📝 (updated)
This is a collection of letter & call campaigns, petitions, and open letters calling for pandemic resources & mitigation, that I've happened to find, participated in, or made myself.
Last updated: 14 September 2023
(If you know of a campaign that’s not listed on here, tell me about it, please! Or if something needs updating, let me know. Thank you!)
🇺🇸 Oregon USA Letter Campaign : Tell OHA to keep COVID-19 as a restrictable disease and reinstate a five-day isolation period!
By Pan End It: This school year, Oregon is no longer asking all students and teachers with COVID-19 to stay home. Instead, COVID-positive people only have to stay home if they have symptoms; under current school guidance, asymptomatic and presymptomatic people with COVID are allowed to attend school, even though they can also transmit COVID-19.
🇺🇸 Pennsylvania USA Letter Campaign: Tell Governor Josh Shapiro Run the boost vaccine ads!
By Chloe Humbert: Please join me in writing to Governor Josh Shapiro to do a vaccine drive using the wonderful ad campaign the state already had made and can be rolled out again to save lives.
By Justin Singer from Toronto, Ontario: We, the undersigned, concerned citizens and residents of Canada, members of the scientific and public health communities, and advocates for evidence-based public policy, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Bring provincial health care systems into compliance with the criteria of public administration, comprehensiveness, universality, portability, and accessibility, as outlined in the Canada Health Act; …
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: CDC Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) needs public oversight.
By People’s CDC: There is a dangerous new government policy being proposed which could harm healthcare workers and patients across the country. Instead of strengthening infection control policies in healthcare settings to protect workers and patients from infectious diseases, the CDC is planning future guidance which could lower healthcare infection control standards.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: It's Time to Support the Treat Long COVID Act as U.S. Disability Rates Hit an All-Time High!
By COVID-19 LONGHAULER ADVOCACY PROJECT, INC: We need your support to get the Treat Long COVID Act supported, in a bi-partisan fashion, across the nation. Millions need care, and assistance, which largely depends on medical documentation. The Treat Long COVID Act will help provide the framework we need to start moving forward with assistance and solutions for the Long COVID community, and beyond, improving patient outcomes.
🇺🇸 USA Petition: Reverse Dangerous and Discriminatory PPE Policy at In-N-Out Burger
by Gwen Bishop: With no cure for Long Covid, masking and COVID-19 safety are crucial workers' rights concerns. Businesses must not jeopardize employees' lives. We implore In-N-Out to reconsider and prioritize employee and customer health. Let us create an inclusive, safe environment where health and livelihood are not in conflict.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Weigh in on In-N-Out Burger’s mask ban policy
By People’s CDC: Support In-N-Out workers contacting In-N-Out to let them know you are opposed to this kind of discriminatory, deadly policy.
By National Nurses United: 1) Fully recognize aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory pathogens. 2) Maintain and strengthen respiratory protection and other protections for health care workers caring for patients with suspected or confirmed respiratory infections. 3) The CDC must maintain an approach in any updated infection control guidance that is clear and explicit on the precautions that are needed in situations where infectious pathogens are present or may be present in health care settings; don’t adopt a crisis standards approach. 4) CDC and HICPAC should engage with stakeholders, including direct care health care workers, their unions, patients, and community members to provide them with the ability to review and provide essential input into guidance updates.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign to the White House - Prioritize Telework for Federal Workers
By Chloe Humbert - Telework should be prioritized for our future, to mitigate climate change and infectious disease in the ongoing pandemic.
🇺🇸 USA Public Comment Campaign to CMS - Hospitals should protect us from Hospital-Acquired COVID
By People’s CDC: We have until June 9, 2023 to tell the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) that hospitals should give us care, not COVID. CMS has a huge influence on hospitals. 94% of hospitals have at least half of their admissions paid for by Medicare or Medicaid. CMS already penalizes hospitals which fail to keep patients safe from other hospital-acquired infections and could push hospitals to protect patients from catching COVID when in their care.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign to Senators: Prioritize Telework for Our Future
By Chloe Humbert: Join me in writing to U.S. Senators to oppose the pathetic, irrational, and big money fossil fuel industry serving nonsense bill S. 1565 called "The SHOW UP Act" which would attempt to roll backwards in time to prohibit telework for government employees and try to pretend there aren’t a dozen reasons telework is a great idea, including making jobs accessible to high risk disabled Americans in an ongoing pandemic threat environment.
By People’s CDC: Please join us in sending a clear message to your Senator that you demand them to call on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to require protections and universal masking in healthcare settings, continued reporting of healthcare acquired COVID infections, and to count COVID as one of several other conditions in reducing payments to hospital for healthcare services.
🇺🇸 Wisconsin & Illinois USA Petition: Keep healthcare masking at UW Health in Wisconsin and Illinois
By UW Workers’ COVID Response Working Group: Join fellow concerned community members in supporting continued universal masking in all healthcare settings at UW Health to safeguard patients and healthcare workers from COVID. All patients deserve safe access to care.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Free PCR tests and CDC Data Collection
By People’s CDC: Join us in writing Congress, the CDC and the ICATT and ask them to make Free PCR tests available for all through ICATT. They can do this by maintaining and expanding the pharmacy and stand-alone testing sites through Color Health, eTruthNorth, Quest and others at libraries, retail locations and independent pharmacies, and to expand this program to require community health centers to test residents for free.
🇨🇦 CANADA Petition: Canadian hospitals need to maintain MASK mandates
By Iris Gorfinkel, M.D.: WE...as patients, caregivers and healthcare workers: - Assert our right to safety in hospitals and other healthcare settings - Demand that masks be re-instated in hospitals and healthcare facilities - Expect that institutions follow through on their DUTY OF CARE and PROTECT patients, caregivers and staff
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Maintain or Enact Universal Masking at Healthcare Systems
By People’s CDC: Please join us in sending a clear message to your local healthcare system leadership that you demand for protections and universal masking.
🇨🇦 Saskatchewan CANADA Letter Campaign: Restore COVID-19 Mask Requirements in Medical Settings
By Take Action Against Covid: Without mask requirements, SHA homes and facilities are a hazard to immunocompromised and high risk staff, patients, and visitors. This is an issue of equity and supporting the rights of vulnerable and disabled people.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Wastewater data is valuable infrastructure that must be funded.
By Chloe Humbert: Wastewater data is valuable infrastructure technology. Wastewater monitoring must continue and be expanded for our modern society's scientific public health management. Wastewater monitoring data is important scientific data for a number of applications, including public health monitoring for viruses like SARSCOV2. This needs to be funded and encouraged at all levels of government.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Give us the boosts!
By Chloe Humbert: Americans need access to vaccine boosters more than once a year. Vaccine policy should be based on science and protecting human lives, not the economy or a political football or corporate nonsense. Scientific evidence indicates the vaccine should ideally be allowed, available, and fully covered by public funds or insurance, twice a year.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: We need free rapid home covid tests for all
By People’s CDC: At a minimum, 8 tests per month per person should continue to be covered by all health insurance including private plans, Medicare and Medicaid – and available via the US Postal Service. Without free tests, many people simply won’t test, and will go to work or school sick – and won’t seek treatment that could keep them from getting sicker. Covid isn’t over, so we need at-home TESTS.
🌐 Global Petition: We ask WHO to urgently promote broad awareness of aerosol transmission
by covidisairborne.org: WHO has a duty to communicate all relevant and available scientific information to the world. Its influence on public health authorities must be used to shift practical guidance toward educating and mitigating the risk of airborne transmission.
🇺🇸 USA Petition: Keep Masking Mandatory in Healthcare Facilities!
by COVID-19 Longhauler Advocacy Project, Inc: As states throughout the U.S. begin to discontinue mandatory masking in healthcare facilities, they place the most vulnerable populations at enormous risk in the very places and by the very people they go to for help. We are urging the State Department of Health, State Health Commissioner, and Governor to maintain or reimplement orders keeping masking mandatory in healthcare facilities.
By National Nurses United: This bill would set specific safety limits on the number of patients each registered nurse can care for in hospitals throughout the United States. Staffing ratios have been proven to improve patient care and nurse retention.
🇺🇸 USA Petition: Tell Congress: Permanently expand SNAP benefits!
By Daily Kos: At least $2.5 billion in monthly emergency food benefits have expired nationwide, leaving millions of people facing a sudden financial cliff.
🇺🇸 Massachusetts USA Letter Campaign: Save Free PCR Testing for Uninsured and ALL Massachusetts Residents
by Massachusetts Coalition for Health Equity: Governor Maura Healey announcement that they will close the state’s “Stop the Spread” COVID PCR testing program on March 31, 2023 will remove access to testing for undocumented, uninsured residents of the state. Stop the Spread Sites are an essential service for uninsured MA residents, and others needing free, fast accessible PCR tests. This rolling back of healthcare access is a dangerous precedent for Massachusetts, which has one of the best public health infrastructures in the country.
By STRATEGIES FOR HIGH IMPACT & LONG COVID ACTION PROJECT (LCAP): “the article created a dangerous misrepresentation of the prevalence and severity of Long COVID, downplaying its existing risk to society – even while including compelling stories of the profound impact it has on individuals.”
🇺🇸 USA letter campaign: Demand Protections and Expanded Care for Our People!
By Long Covid Justice: Join us in demanding your governor ensure your state reevaluates its enrollees' eligibility in as fair and as equitable a way as possible and that your state takes every step possible to sustain and expand health coverage. Email your Governor Today!
🇺🇸 Illinois, USA Petition: PASS the Clean Air for Healthy Equitable Schools Act (HB3713) in Illinois!
by ISAQS Contact: Support Illinois HB3713, the Clean Air for Healthy Equitable Schools bill and encourage Illinois legislators to VOTE YES on this initiative! Our teachers and students deserve to work/learn in schools that meet expert recommendations for clean air!
🌐 Global Petition to: Moderna: Share the Science to Ensure Global Vaccine Access
By Justice is Global: The US government invested billions in Moderna’s vaccine technology, but Moderna has not shared the benefits with the public. The company raked in almost $18 billion in profits in 2022 alone, while multiple shareholders, including CEO Stéphane Bancel, have become billionaires. Meanwhile, it has stonewalled all efforts to share its publicly funded technology with the world or license out production to other manufacturers.
🇺🇸 Washington State USA Letter Campaign: Governor Inslee & WA Dept of Health: Keep Masks in Healthcare, Long-term Care, and Prisons!
by Seattle Still Cares: This is an attack on everyone who seeks medical care, resides in long-term care, and is incarcerated– and the hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians who work in these settings. Ending this mask mandate is unacceptable and will create more spread, more death, and more disablement making it even harder for Washingtonians to safely access health care, for people in long term facilities to be safe, and for incarcerated people to be safer from Covid.
By STRATEGIES FOR HIGH IMPACT: Jha continues to minimize the risks of COVID infection as well as the numbers of people facing the effects of Long COVID.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Tell Congress: Defend Medicaid and CHIP!
By Coalition On Human Needs: Eliminating the health insurance of millions of people with low incomes is unconscionable. Access to health care is an inalienable right. We cannot allow one political party with the slimmest of majorities -- that’s controlled by an extreme faction -- to cruelly deny health coverage to millions of people.
🇺🇸 New Jersey USA
Petition & Call Campaign - NJ: Retain Masking in Healthcare Facilities
Please call the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) Commissioner’s Office to say you support the mask mandate in healthcare settings and don’t want it to end. NJDOH Commissioner’s Office: 609-292-7837
By MASSACHUSETTS COALITION FOR HEALTH EQUITY: Without universal masking precautions in healthcare, vulnerable people face substantial risk of being exposed in waiting rooms or clinical settings against their will, violating their autonomy, and deterring many from seeking much-needed care.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign to State Governors: Keep Masks In Healthcare
By People’s CDC: Policy to remove masks in healthcare is dangerous, unethical and based on flawed data. Health care is the most essential place to prevent spread of infection, and keeping health care safe should be a bare minimum of accessibility in every state.
🇺🇸 New York State USA Letter Campaign: Reinstate the Mask Mandate for Healthcare Settings in NY!
By Mandate Masks NY: Contact the Governor, Commissioner, and State Assemblymember and Senator to say that we need New York State to reinstate the mask mandate for healthcare settings!
🇺🇸 USA Public Comment Period: Tell CDC to prioritize chronically ill, immunocompromised, and disabled folks in COVID vaccine policy
Instructions and information about the issue and submitting a public comment provided By Matthew Cortland: “If you're at higher risk from COVID-19 (because of chronic illness, or disability, immune compromise, or age) and you want the option of more than a single COVID-19 booster shot per year? Please tell that to CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), by 11:59PM ET on February 17th, 2023.”
🇺🇸 USA Petition to President Joe Biden: Oppose Ending the National and Public Health Emergency Declarations
On behalf of the millions of people in this country who are at especially high risk for COVID-19 complications and deaths, we urge you to please extend the National Emergency and Public Health Emergency declarations to provide crucial health care access for all. Further, we urge you to promote comprehensive, multi-layered measures to prevent transmission of COVID.
🇺🇸 USA Letter Campaign: Tell elected reps: Maintain healthcare coverage , we need robust public health infrastructure.
President Biden and Members of Congress, Three years into the COVID-19 pandemic, we need you to treat the pandemic like the ongoing public health emergency it is. We need you to embrace a comprehensive approach to public health based on layers of protection and public policies aimed at protecting the most vulnerable people among us.
by People’s CDC
It is neglectful that RECOVER would choose to focus on exercise and forms of CBT when there are dozens of drugs available waiting to be tested that could lead to better outcomes and/or more clues as to the pathophysiology of Long COVID. It is a waste of taxpayer money, limited resources, and crucial time to be testing harmful, debunked hypotheses.
By STRATEGIES FOR HIGH IMPACT
Letter Campaign: Tell Congress to Pass Essential COVID and Global Health Funding!
As 2022 comes to a close, we are experiencing multiple global health crises. Congress is voting on spending for 2023 THIS Friday, and we need them to make sure there is funding for pandemic preparedness and response.
Letter campaign: Urge the White House and Congress to Provide Free N95 Masks!
The White House restarted its free rapid test distribution program, but this alone is not enough. The White House needs to also launch a program to mail free N95 masks to the public.
Right now, in many cities and states across the country there is no distribution of free N95 masks to the general public. The federal N95 mask distribution program at pharmacies ended awhile ago.
On December 3, 2022, President Biden signed a bill to block the pending railway strike and force workers to accept the agreements which did not include the desired amount of paid sick leave, offering only one day of leave over the seven days rail unions were advocating for.
BY Daily Kos Liberation League
The American people need you to wholeheartedly support money to weather the winter surge; to keep tests, vaccines, and treatments available to the American people; to research long COVID; and to develop next-generation vaccines to truly put this pandemic nightmare behind us.
Join us to demand Congress fund critical global and domestic health measures to keep our communities safe. We are in the crosshairs of colliding global and domestic pandemics: HIV, Long COVID and ME/CFS, COVID-19, Ebola, cholera, monkeypox, TB, and more.
By ME Action
Open Letter: Tell Congress: #FundPandemicPlans!
Open Letter to President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, and Senator Schumer, We urge you to take swift action, as the situation will only become more dire. Our current catastrophe was preventable. But it won’t be prevented from happening again unless the U.S. pandemic response makes some drastic changes.
USA: Letter Campaign: Tell Congress: Railroad workers deserve fair pay and time off
Workers currently get no sick leave and are on-call 7 days per week, year round.
By More Perfect Union
USA: Letter Campaign: Railroad workers deserve fair pay and time off!
Right now, railroad workers get no sick leave and are on-call 7 days per week, year round. This isn’t right.
First sent on November 28 by Jess Craven
FOI Campaign: File a Freedom of Information Request
With Freedom of Information requests, we can legally compel provincial governments responsible for the failed pandemic response to share the information they used (and ignored) to make their decisions; the data they have on Long COVID which they have refused to publicize; what, if any, work they're doing to improve ventilation in public buildings; and any correspondence between public health officials and other bodies which would show what they've been hiding, and why.
Letter Campaign: Don’t End the COVID-19 National Emergency!
Tell your rep: NO on SJR63 (a joint resolution ENDING the declared National COVID Emergency)! Terminating this declaration could cause up to 15 million people to lose Medicaid/CHIP, reduction in SNAP benefits, and vax access. txt SIGN PKAMFD to 50409
by PEOPLE’S RESPONSE NETWORK
Current U.S. policies tell immune-compromised folks at high risk and other vulnerable people to go to pharmacies to get vaccines and boosters – at the same time as people contagious with active COVID infections are going there to get Paxlovid and COVID tests, and others who may not yet know they are contagious are simply shopping. ALL WITH NO MASKS! This policy makes no sense. Drug stores are community shopping centers and provide healthcare.
by People’s CDC
OSHA is delaying implementation of a critical measure - the Permanent Standard for Covid-19 - that they promised to make our health care facilities and communities safer. We are calling on OSHA and the Biden Administration to keep their promise and immediately issue a permanent standard for Covid-19 to protect health care workers and patients. Here’s how you can help:

Write a letter to the editor to your local newspapers.
Over the last three years, as a result of rule changes made during the COVID-19 public health emergency, the uninsured rate in the United States has reached a record low as enrollment in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) increased. This was, in part, due to “continuous coverage requirements,” which will end when the public health emergency ends, unless Congress acts.
🇨🇦 ONTARIO CANADA
Petition: Bring back mask mandates in Ontario
I have heard from many Ontarians, both vulnerable and healthy, concerned on how they can protect themselves this winter from infection and illness when so many around them are maskless in high risk indoor public settings like grocery stores, stores, transit, pharmacies, doctor's offices, schools, universities, concerts, and mass events. Please consider signing this petition now. Together we can make a difference.
By Bill Comeau
We need to urgently distribute N95 masks to the provinces. Why? Omicron's increased transmissibility through the air makes cloth and surgical blue masks less effective now. Studies over the past year have highlighted the superior proven performance of technologically-advanced N95 masks over both cloth and blue surgical masks.
By Bill Comeau
🇺🇸 NEW YORK CITY, USA

Just in time for flu season, with 300-400 US residents dying from COVID-19 daily, the CDC revised its infection control guidelines regarding mask-wearing in healthcare settings, from hospitals and clinics to home care providers and nursing homes. The new guideline recommended masks only need to be worn in healthcare settings when COVID Community Transmission rates are high, based on the CDC map.
This change is dangerous, unethical and based on flawed data.

By the People’s CDC
OSHA must take immediate action to issue a permanent standard to protect health care workers. And a broader, separate standard is also needed to prepare for future pandemics and protect all workers from workplace exposure to aerosol transmissible diseases!

Join us in calling and writing to the White House and our Congress people to denounce the new guidelines, and demand they use all the tools available to keep us all safe.
In the midst of a lethal ongoing pandemic where SARS-CoV-2 deaths outpace even bad flu seasons, NPR ran a piece that led with the incorrect claim that COVID is "no more dangerous than the flu" with a headline asserting that the lethality of the virus is "up for debate" when there is in fact no debate about level of deaths rocking our nation.
